I kind of wonder how much of this is intrinsic to human behavior and how much is based on media cues from our formative years. It seems really easy: play the right music, say things ominously, flash pictures. The people producing these videos aren’t experts on human psychology. They know how to manipulate with film. And maybe it’s because we spend our lives watching media, and we learn that certain cues make something reliable.
