- mikhailfranco 6y agoIndeed you must. Petra is an incredible place that seems to inspire poetic thoughts in every visitor, including your humble correspondent: https://www.flickr.com/photos/mikhailfranco/8579438475 https://www.flickr.com/photos/mikhailfranco/8579438475 It is a sculpture not a building. A fanciful classical facade carved around a small beshadowed room. It is hard evidence of insanity. Proof that sculptors can only take away but add so much with their subtractions. It is a glorious folly in a hidden valley beyond a lost city. The grandeur and futility of the human spirit has been revealed within the stone. And down the endless millennia each wondrous visitor will cast a dismayed gaze at the madness and beauty of ancient days.
