Moved into a mega-cor rental.
Noticed a chemical smell.
Not what I considered a typical gas smell.
Was assured it was just new carpets/Flooring etc.
3 months of run around on it. I was so disoriented I started walking into traffic. Kids couldn’t spell they’re own names.
It was a major gas leak, plus carbon monoxide. Furnace and stove.
New Carbon monoxide alarm never went off.
Yea, massive medical problems all around from that. Completely destroyed our lives.
- gnusty_gnurc 6y ago> New carbon monoxide alarm never went off. I don't doubt any of what you're saying, but that seems odd.
- jly 6y agoTypical CO alarms only go off when there is a level of gas that is an imminent danger. A lower level of gas could be present and go totally undetected, but present an ongoing health risk. There are special CO monitors that are capable of detecting and alerting down to 5ppm but they are rarely installed in homes.
- treeman79 6y agoGuy from gas company stuck it over stove, along with his device. His was showing extreme numbers. Mine blinked happily. He said this was common. Always get one that showed actual numbers.
- mint2 6y agoWell it sounds like the bulk of the pollution was methane and hydrocarbons, maybe some co alarms don’t do well in heavy background gas like that.
- mattgreenrocks 6y agoWoah, how did you figure that out? Hope you are recovering okay.
- treeman79 6y agoCalled gas company after 3 months of dealing with rental Company. I had no idea that was even a thing. It’s a free check. The past several mornings the kids were extremely hard to wake. I was walking to work when I realized I was standing in middle of a major street. Gas guy said at levels it was at, he didn’t think kids would be waking up ever again. I’m alive from it. I don’t worry about planning for retirement any more. Certainly won’t live that long.
- Zenbit_UX 6y agoContact a lawyer ASAP. There's a lawsuit here if I've ever heard one.
- treeman79 6y agoTried. They were only interested if we got a doctor to sign off that toxic gas caused Injury. Turns out doctors don’t care. They treat symptoms not causes. Several said they had had no idea what that much natural gas exposure would do. Plus when 100% of the time I would explain it was carbon monoxide AND natural gas. They would fixate on carbon monoxide. Declaring that that those issues clear up quickly. Ignoring the other half of the issue. Eventually gave up as I basically was bed bound for better than a year and just couldn’t fight it.
- gist 6y ago> New Carbon monoxide alarm never went off. I use more than one CO detector and order from different manufacturers. Same as I have done with hard drives or SSD's. Will note this is trivial to do typically cost wise.
- neolog 6y agoDid everybody recover after fixing it?
