Water Futures to Start Trading Amid Growing Fears of Scarcity
- asdff 6y agoHow is water not a solved problem with desalination? 40% of the worlds population lives within 100km of a coast, and I feel like we'd sooner open more coal plants to power desalination and pollute than let the taps in NYC run dry, if push really came to shove.
- TheCoelacanth 6y agoThere a pretty wide gap between actually being in danger of running out of something and it being completely free. Wheat futures also get traded, and we're not about to run out of that. Futures trading could actually make it easier to fund the up front cost of building desalination plants since they could lock in the price that they are selling their water for.
