When I was a kid decades, we used to go sledding in the snow approximately every Christmas.
These days snow is such a rarity that my kids have hardly ever seen snow in this country. They’ve gone sledding once or twice in their lives.
Furthermore, the idea of a white Christmas is largely a byproduct of the Charles Dickens era in the late 1800s when he saw snow every Christmas and even skating on the Thames when it froze over.

Were the winters really that snow covered and the summers really that endless, when we were wee? I have been saying for a while now that they really should change the lyrics of that festive song to "I'm dreaming of a wet Christmas... " to better reflect expectations.
