Snowy UK winters could become thing of the past
- Kaibeezy 6y ago(UK government weather office) analysis ... suggests by the 2040s most of southern England could no longer see sub-zero days. By the 2060s only high ground and northern Scotland are still likely to experience such cold days.
- alblue 6y agoWhen I was a kid decades, we used to go sledding in the snow approximately every Christmas. These days snow is such a rarity that my kids have hardly ever seen snow in this country. They’ve gone sledding once or twice in their lives. Furthermore, the idea of a white Christmas is largely a byproduct of the Charles Dickens era in the late 1800s when he saw snow every Christmas and even skating on the Thames when it froze over. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/River_Thames_frost_fairs https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/River_Thames_frost_fairs
- Normille 6y agoSame here. Although I do sometimes wonder if the memory's 'nostalgia filter' plays tricks. Were the winters really that snow covered and the summers really that endless, when we were wee? I have been saying for a while now that they really should change the lyrics of that festive song to "I'm dreaming of a wet Christmas... " to better reflect expectations.
