Well, I have a problem that if I'm not motivated I tend to procrastinate, a lot. Exciting tech enables some kind of "berzerk mode" in me where I work frantically, i.e. like a normal coder. So I tend to choose exciting tech when I can (and I must say that discovering Rust a few years ago gave me a lot of motivation to enjoy programming again).
