Nonsense. We shouldn’t pretend the “herd immunity” people have any scientific backing, because by and large they don’t.

- collyw 6y agoThere are plenty of established scientists that are going against the method of the current approach, they tend to get silenced in the media. It's not like lockdowns have any scientific evidence, everyone just copied what China was doing. If they are effective then you would expect Peru to not have the second highest fatality rates after 8 months of strict lockdown.

Yes the strict lockdowns in Peru were ridiculous and accomplished nothing except damaging the economy and putting the country in debt. Covid still got around both during and after the cuarentena. Shopping malls have been back to near normal capacity for quite some time, movie theaters are finally reopening with a 40% capacity limit but discos still closed. - darkerside 6y agoI wonder if it was always like this, where people were only willing to hear their own side of any argument. Some things get "decided", and then are no longer open for debate. Smacks of theism or monarchism in a way.
- collyw 6y agoSadly it seems so. I was arguing in favour of lock-down in the beginning, when a lot less was know about the virus, and it appeared to be more deadly than it actually is. I thought Sweden was stupid for not locking down, but to my surprise their case numbers didn't spiral out of control. Their hospitals managed fine. At that point I reevaluated my position, but it seems I am one of the few who did. I new see the that lockdown skeptics seem a lot more data driven in their approach than pro-lockdown people, who seem to base things on assumptions and politics.
- darkerside 6y agoI find there to be people on both sides who exhibit a failure to think critically. IMO, lockdown should not be a binary thing. Since things should be open. Others should probably remain closed while the infection rages. Masks, on the other hand, should be ubiquitous.
