Hawaii will pay for the flights of remote workers who relocate to Honolulu
- warent 6y agoThis doesn't surprise me, the governor of Hawaii is very big on business and growth, and has been working very hard to turn Honolulu into a small silicon valley. I don't think this is necessarily the right way to do it though. Remote workers have jobs outside Hawaii so basically you're just flying in mainlanders to price out even more struggling locals.
- Exmoor 6y ago> Hawaii is offering to pay for round trip flights to Oahu for a select group of US remote workers willing to relocate temporarily. Looks like it's only temporary relocation, so presumably workers would be residing in hotels or other locations typically occupied by tourists, rather than dislocating permanent residents.
- Exmoor 6y agoMy spouse and I would love to temporarily relocate to Hawaii and work remotely/vacation for a while. That said, last I checked, current travel conditions make this difficult. Also, we would almost certainly not choose Oahu.
- verdverm 6y ago"Awardees are expected to perform community work in exchange for flights, discounted accommodation, and a range of other perks." This sounds an awful lot like indentured servitude.
- SlipperySlope 6y agoKauai north shore after Musk gets Starlink going. Fast internet wherever. If not big surf, then Kauai south or west shore near Waimea canyon. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waimea,_Kauai_County,_Hawaii https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waimea,_Kauai_County,_Hawaii An annoying problem but not a deal breaker is the lack of free shipping from eCommerce to the islands.
