‘High-value’ business travellers to be exempt from UK travel quarantine
- Bostonian 6y agoIf travel imposes externalities on society by increasing covid cases, a temporary tax on tickets could be levied. I don't necessarily favor this, but it would more economically efficient than the government deciding what travel should be allowed.
- ksaj 6y agoI'd be pretty a-okay with it as long as that tax goes directly to Covid relief: PPE, vaccines, eviction assistance, etc. If they're high enough value to increase the risk for so many incidental people along the way, they're also high enough value to financially support those additional risks.
- Bostonian 6y agoSince money is fungible, it's not meaningful to say that money from tax X goes to service Y. The amount raised by a ticket surcharge would be trivial compared to spending on covid.
