Reddit is following the steps of Facebook: copying other's features.
They have a live streaming platform, they added something similar to discord for chats. what's next?
- matzab 6y agoProbably Stories because that's what anything even remotely "social" has to do right now, apparently.
- fernandotakai 6y agohonestly, i don't know anyone that really uses reddit's chat feature. most communities have their own discord server by now.
- Someone1234 6y agoThey just discontinued subreddit chat rooms too, which was a massive embarrassing back-tracking on a highly controversial feature. https://www.reddit.com/r/modnews/comments/jwme40/deprecating_community_chat_rooms/ https://www.reddit.com/r/modnews/comments/jwme40/deprecating... Reddit's whole philosophy with chat was just to shove it down everyone's throats, and see if it sticks. The spammers loved it right from the get-go, but nobody else is using it.
- fernandotakai 6y agothank god. i got spammed so hard by it for a while -- and the worst part is that there was no way to avoid said spam.
- forgotmypw17 6y agoI stopped checking it because 95% of it was harrassment for modding.
- freeflight 6y agoAs far as I can tell the personal chats, where most of the spam comes from, are still there.
- briga 6y agoReddit has really been emphasizing its social aspect lately, so I wouldn't be surprised if it introduced a Friends/Followers section and shifted towards a more personalized front page.
- flatline 6y agoIt has had it from near the beginning, and has been trying to promote the feature more over the last few months. You now get notified when you get new followers, at least. It is still very rudimentary, I agree that this will be an area of focus for them in the upcoming months/years.
- lebaux 6y agoBoth chat and their streaming seems pretty dead. They are trying to hard to be big boy social network.
- choward 6y agoI'm guessing their own 3rd party seller marketplace is next.
