Would you get a Covid vaccine in exchange for a $1,500 stimulus check?
- arthurcolle 6y agoBest I can do is $2,700.
- LinuxBender 6y agoNo. I have stayed clear of vaccines since the 90's. I opt to keep my immune system strong.
- wagslane 6y agoI thought vaccines DID keep your immune system strong by forcing it to create antibodies to fight the diseases it hasn't even seen yet...?
- LinuxBender 6y agoYes. I do not need that. There are millions of pathogens that I come across all the time. I have not gotten sick in decades and do no foresee ever getting sick again. I would quote George Carlin as he and I were on the same page, but it might be a bit outside the scope of HN.
- arthurcolle 6y agoIt is a pretty funny video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X29lF43mUlo&ab_channel=GeenNaam https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X29lF43mUlo&ab_channel=GeenN...

- david-cako 6y agoAs a kid it seemed like I got sick a lot (as perhaps many kids do) and I became a germaphobe. Now, as an adult, I am/was traveling semi-frequently, I don't really think twice about touching things in public, washing my hands, eating food off the floor, etc, and I am basically never sick. COVID has changed my habits, naturally, and perhaps I unknowingly kept habits that limit my exposure. I'd be interested to know how different levels of quarantine impact someone's infection and illness rates separately; being a healthy carrier among a community of healthy carriers might be a good thing, as it indicates people are getting exposed to new pathogens at a safe gradient.
- nickthemagicman 6y agoI'm with you. I'm not remotely worried about catching Coronavirus and haven't been sick in Decades. I like Carlins take on his white blood cells being armed with assault rifles with laser scopes. The older I get the more I realize Carlin had a lot of Libertarian leanings.
- vb6sp6 6y agoYour immune system is apolitical. No amount of libertarianism is going to protect you from measles.
- nickthemagicman 6y agoVaccines that have been established for decades I'm cool with. Going to wait for the germaphobes to beta test this hastily rushed vaccine for me. Let me know how it goes!
- jjeaff 6y agoWe don't have vaccinations for the millions of pathogens you encounter on a daily basis. Just the ones that are deadly. No immune system can fight some pathogens. You have gotten lucky so far. Not to mention that while some viruses may not affect you, that doesn't mean you aren't spreading them on to other people that may die from them. Vaccination is as much a community issue as a personal one.
- LinuxBender 6y agoSo when Covid-23 is released in March [1], will we lock down all the economies again for 1 - 3 years and work on another vaccine? Will we focus on getting better at making vaccines faster? Seems like a losing battle strategy to me. Healthy people did just fine with covid-19. I see the root cause but I do not see any leadership that will fix it. I know of only 2 viruses that a healthy human requires prophylaxis shots for and one of those also requires $100k/yr in medication for the rest of the persons life. No, I do not expect to fight those without help. That said, I will not just depend on the bandage of a vaccine. I will grab every CRISPR scientist under the sun. Link added for theoretical scenario. - uberman 6y agoGood, Stay "strong"! More for the rest of us. :-P
- wagslane 6y agoSo this is a negotiation now...
- vb6sp6 6y agoNot really. It's a idea from a former congressperson.
- uberman 6y agoI would pay $1500 to have my family vaccinated right now.
- angryasian 6y agoI was coming to say the same. I'd easily pay to get a vaccine. Being able to go out and not have to worry is worth a lot to me right now.
- strangattractor 6y agoI was going to get it without the money. Sure I'll take a check with that.
- nickthemagicman 6y agoI was reading that the side effects of the Covid vaccine put some people in bed for a week and a half. How much is your time worth?
- amanaplanacanal 6y agoWhere did you read that?
- nickthemagicman 6y agoGoogle side effects of Covid vaccine.
- amanaplanacanal 6y agoFrom what I see 2 to 4 percent have some side effects ranging from soreness at the injection site to flu like symptoms lasting up to 12 hours. I don’t see anything like what you are claiming.
- URfejk 6y agoNo.
