data analytics, stats, machine learning, computational science, computational engineering, the list goes on plotting/viz using matplotlib, altair, Mike Bostock's D3.js, graphviz, pgf/tikz, inkscape, the list goes on I can't think of much outside a small subset of pure-math, and a small subset of TCS, where visualization is not part and parcel of daily research activity. (ignoring non-STEM disciplines like english, communication, social/political/economic sciences, etc).
