In my field (actuarial), we have a ridiculously long credentialing process that involves 10 exams, which can take 8 or so years to complete. And many have the opinion that the tests are unfair and wish they could just have technical interviews instead. Then there are some companies that don't trust the credentialing process and give you a technical interview anyway, even after you had proved yourself by finishing the exams.
