- tartoran 6y agoThat's a good point. I think google doesn't delete anything unless the law forces them to do so.
- jefftk 6y agoThat's not correct. If you delete things they are actually deleted, though it does take a few months to be gone from everywhere. - bird_monster 6y agoI wouldn't believe that Google deletes data even if they wrote it in stone.
- tartoran 6y agoI believe what you say that it gets deleted. What I am not sure is whether it gets copied somewhere else for long term storage or some data mining, thing that you may not be aware of. I doubt you know everything that happens at google but I might be wrong there as I don't know who exactly is that I am talking to. Regardless, google has lost my trust completely and am not sure if it is possible to recover it and go back to the "do no evil stage" anymore.
- bird_monster 6y agoYeah - I believe this person believes that a set of data in its original state gets full-deleted. I do not believe that that data, in all of its forms, gets deleted from all of its storage locations. I'd hazard a guess that Google doesn't even have the ability to know whether it's been fully deleted across all of its storage locations even if they wanted to.
- pmiller2 6y agoI get where you're coming from, but isn't 2 years an awful long time for Google to have to use your data the way Google, and Google alone chooses, even if "delete" really means "delete"?
- bird_monster 6y agoMy statement is more about what I would _like_. Meaning, if Google is saying 'If you stop using google products, 2 years later we will full delete all of your data', I would spot using them today, right now. If there is grey area, I probably wouldn't/don't care, because what can I really do?
- bagacrap 6y agoyou can manually delete your account and all data, today, and Google will actually delete everything much sooner than two years from now. You can also set your account to auto delete n months after it becomes inactive.
- bird_monster 6y agoFull delete? No copies or derivations? No anonymized versions? No subsidiaries?
