I mean, from the tweets what I gather is she wasn't planning on leaving just yet. Saying "hey, you want to resign by [X] but we'd rather you be gone so let us inform you've just been resigned as of now" is essentially firing [1].
> Offering to resign was a huge mistake.
I think this will be good for her in the long term. I'm sure she'll find another research position, and the alternative was betraying her convictions or just the huge burden of constantly being worn down by Google.

- parliament32 6y agoFrom the response, it was more like "I want you to do X otherwise I'll resign", and google said "ok, cya". Curious the author isn't willing to publish the actual email, just the management's response.

- parliament32 6y agoSee that's interesting, considering she managed to post the manager's response verbatim..
- pseudalopex 6y agoIt would be logical for the manager to send it to another account so she could read it.
- idlewords 6y agoI have no doubt she'll land on her feet, just like everyone who quits Google in such circumstances, but if you actually want to have an impact in such a situation, make them fire you instead of giving them an out like this.
