A related point that comes up a lot is that if you give notice that you are quitting effective on date X, your employer is entitled to say, ok we accept your resignation but it’s effective immediately, or some earlier date. Sometimes an employee will have a quitting plan that is like, they will do x y z while still at the company and then quit after a drawn out period of several months, and the manager would prefer to just move on.
