Mushrooms and mycelia can be used as a resource to fabricate textiles, packaging, bricks etc. Also, if the mushrooms grow only on what they can break down it's totally safe to eat them. It has to be a controlled process. Not just trying to grow mushrooms on a heap of trash you'd otherwise just burn. Having said that - even mushrooms won't liberate us from using resources more responsibly.
