According to: https://www.iea.org/reports/kazakhstan-energy-profile https://www.iea.org/reports/kazakhstan-energy-profile Coal fuels around 70% of electricity generation (in 2018), followed by natural gas (20% in 2018). (rest seems to be hydro) I assume cheap because no carbon tax.
