I really like how Slack states all this in their analytics. They give you just enough data to satisfy your craving for making sure people are using the app, and then they mention "message count has no relevance to actual productivity".
They definitely stay hard in the platform category.
- skohan 6y agoDepending on the team culture, slack usage might be a counter-indicator for productivity
- Frost1x 6y agoSlack is the most unproductive application I think I've used.
- claudeganon 6y agoI had a job once where the person tasked with training me would only do so over Slack, even though they sat 3 feet in front of me. If I spoke up to ask a question, they would angrily turn around and tell me to message them instead. Needless to say, I quit after 2 weeks.
- swsieber 6y agoWhat about Jira? Ha ha seriously though, I was on a video call and people heard my laptop fans kick on and thought I was compiling. In reality, I opened Jira.

- jb775 6y agoAgreed. Not to mention that little green dot acting as a de-facto surveillance tool itself. (I've always wanted to build a Slack green-dot-activator tool that activates the green dot based on customizable settings)
