I can't imagine civilization has been improving science and technology for millennia and now will suddenly stop and never progress to when it is able to create a viable foothold on Mars. And if I know anything about the People of the Earth it is that if something is possible somebody will do it. For one reason or another. Even if it doesn't make economical or scientific or other reason. This is only going two ways, either humanity will land on Mars or we will all die or at least bomb / poison ourselves and go back to stone age. The only question is "when".
