Stopped reading at 'Nobody Actually Likes Charity Gifts'
I understand the social bonds of gift giving but this whole Christmas thing is completely out of hand, so much pointless consumption. The idea of gift giving at christmas is like a good instinct that has been hideously amplified to 1000x what it should be and turned into a monster. I pretty much insist on people giving me charity gifts most years.
- volfyd 6y agoWith the almost instant gratification of Amazon, I always have the gadgets or clothing I need or want, but donating to one of my favorite charities is always always appreciated.
- dkarl 6y agoI feel two ways about it because I'm so similar to my friends and family in terms of the charities I support. I did appreciate, and remember, a charity gift I got from somebody who I knew did not give a damn about the cause that the charity supported, because I knew they did it solely as a gift to me. That felt good.
