DRAM is already commoditized for decades. Highly competitive and pushing prices and margins low, with occasional crises that allow some manufacturers to get a windfall. Apple has no interest to be in that market, unlike the CPU market, which is a high margin, high product differentiator business, it really hard to sell your design as outstanding when the guy next door sells a laptop with the same CPU at half the price.
