Aren't there already more than 7k varieties of apples? And There are so many regional variants, it's hard to have any consistency. For instance, one specific type of red apples with a local name in my country have no equivalent in all the countries I have traveled.
P.S. It's amusing to me that it's on front-page. Apple really works at HN ;)
- ogre_codes 6y agoPerhaps 7k named/ commonly cloned varieties. Every seed grown apple is unique so there are likely hundreds of millions of Apple varieties.
