Interesting and telling that they are willing to put up hosting content from Sega, Sony, Disney, AT&T, Activision, Konami, EA, Capcom, ZeniMax, Toei, Ubisoft, Square Enix, Bandai Namco, and many other (often litiguous) companies, but that you can't find a HINT of anything Nintendo-related.
- selfhoster11 6y agoTelling in what sense? Just the absence of Nintendo content doesn't convey anything to me.
- AnIdiotOnTheNet 6y agoNintendo is notoriously protective of their IP. Compare the amount of Sonic fan-games to the amount of Mario fan-games.
- selfhoster11 6y agoParent's comment seems to hint that Nintendo (vs other publishers) is harsher towards IA in particular, so this is what I meant to ask about. I am aware that Nintendo are litigious in general.
- Chris2048 6y agoHmmm, do they have the permission of the other corps?
- meibo 6y agoArchive.org hosts plenty of Nintendo content, they just don't show it off - I assume that is exactly because Nintendo is the only one of the orgs you listed that still goes after people hosting their 30 year old games, because they know full well that they can rip their fans off to turn them into cash again every 4 years. When ROMs are more than a quick Google away, and they have been for a period of time last year until new ROM sites popped up, spending 45€ on some lousy "Nintendo vault" remakes is getting quite a bit more attractive.

Sega and the others do that too, yet without being as litigious as Nintendo.
