Show HN: Paul Graham Audio Essays
- mritchie712 6y agoThanks for making this. I've started to do this several times, but never finished it. I was going to use Google's Text-to-Speech[0]. What did you go with? 0 - https://cloud.google.com/text-to-speech https://cloud.google.com/text-to-speech
- jazz3020 6y agoHey, you're welcome. I used AWS Polly.
- alexellisuk 6y agoIt's convincing, I was not quite sure if it was machine-generated.
- youeseh 6y agoThis is really cool - I've subscribed to the Podcast. Thank you! Did you need to get permission from PG to do this?
- jazz3020 6y agoUhh- I reached out to PG a few times but didn't get a response. So I just left him a note saying that I would take it down if he wants.
- d2clon 6y agoCool! I see it is in Spotify also :) - https://open.spotify.com/show/7JarKoWwoLvbysR1UZxvhm?si=WN2HBrAARX21umDv6V3Pmg https://open.spotify.com/show/7JarKoWwoLvbysR1UZxvhm?si=WN2H...
- siddienahar 6y agoI just tried it but didn't like the experience. My reading speed is variable, I read slow when I want to internalize the idea v/s I skim through when I am probably reading a novel. At so many points I wanted to pause and re-read the para or think about what he said but listening to the audio didn't really allow for that. PG essays are usually of such kind. I suspect I won't even enjoy audiobooks too for the same reason. I won't be able to accelerate or slow down at my will. But I congratulate you for building it and I'm sure it'd be useful for others.
- purplecats 6y agoI had an identical experience.
- jazz3020 6y agoHey, guys! Unfortunately, PG would like me to take it down. So it will no longer be available, but you can use https://audiblogs.com https://audiblogs.com to listen to web articles privately.
- mritchie712 6y agoDid he give a reason? I thought this was awesome.
- alexellisuk 6y agoSome of Paul's essays are _long_, so this is welcome. Is there a way to get this on Google Podcasts?
- alexellisuk 6y agoThis one "Default Alive or Default Dead?" - didn't seem to work, it's just 2 mins vs the full text... OK it's an advert for the Listle app (dislike this trick/advert)
