This is why, among some of my close friends, we have a game to see who can pay the bill first, without anyone knowing. The surprise comes after the host leaves the paid bill on the table. It’s gone so far as to put a card on file before arriving with no limit, which leads to folks not picking a place to meet in advance, and a lot less predictable locations to meet :)
