'Tainted' how?
> only Ada Core bothers to keep a link with the FOSS community and somehow approachable prices for commercial licenses
There's an Ada compiler as part of the GNU compiler suite.
- fiddlerwoaroof 6y agoExcept, if you want to make proprietary software, you have to compile GNAT yourself and be picky about the libraries you use: Adacore’s own FOSS compiler has a GPL runtime library to prevent commercial usage.
- yawaramin 6y agoAn implementation detail that would be trivial for any large company to handle. Or even, paying for a license.
- pjmlp 6y agoWhich is great, want to earn money? Pay for the work of others. Library authors keep finding out the actual meaning of going with MIT like licenses instead of dual licensing, specially when their libraries get picked up by the likes of Amazon.
- fiddlerwoaroof 6y agoI have no issue with this as a business decision, but this particular decision is a barrier to adoption for a lot of people. Hopefully it pays off for AdaCore.
- pjmlp 6y agoApparently it does, given that NVidia preferred to go with them, than bet on Rust for their high security firmware on automated vehicles.
