- ViralBShah 6y agoIt has been reported that Julia runs just fine under Rosetta. https://github.com/JuliaLang/julia/issues/36617#issuecomment-729351025 https://github.com/JuliaLang/julia/issues/36617#issuecomment...
- sesuximo 6y agoWow that’s pretty cool. I also found https://developer.apple.com/documentation/apple_silicon/about_the_rosetta_translation_environment https://developer.apple.com/documentation/apple_silicon/abou... which explicitly says Rosetta can handle jit. I wonder how it does that? It must emulate the jitted x86 instructions...
- sesuximo 6y agoEdit: apparently it translates instructions when they are marked executable (based on speculation on HN)
- viktorcode 6y agoAhead of time translation is merely an optimisation trick. It still is an emulator.
- The_Colonel 6y agoYeah, I think better question is what's the performance penalty of JIT on Rosetta 2.
- sesuximo 6y agoIs this really true? I thought Rosetta translated x86 to arm Tried looking for docs but didn’t find anything decisive either way
