Can somebody explain why can't the Docker devs come up with a native Docker version for MacOS?
- brianwawok 6y agoHow much money would this make the company? How much would it cost to implement? What more profitable projects would get scrapped? Pretty much the answer to any "Why can't X do Y for $0" type question.
- pornel 6y agoBecause Docker is basically a user interface for Linux's built-in API that is unique to Linux. All the heavy lifting of process isolation is done by Linux itself, not Docker. Adding the same interface to other operating systems would require extensive changes to their kernel. In the closed-source macOS that is not feasible. Apple doesn't give that level of access to anyone.
