Tossing a Bird That Does Not Fly Out of a Plane (2018)
- jimbob45 6y ago> Was it meaningful, given how many billions of birds raised for meat face a far more gruesome life and death? Surely farmers are more merciful in their euthanizations than the later story where the turkey hits a power line and breaks both of its legs.
- jakear 6y agoNo, I don’t think so. > When they arrive, they are strung upside down by their feet—more broken bones—before their head is dunked in electrified water and their throat is cut. Turkeys, like chickens, are not covered by the Humane Methods of Slaughter Act. This means there are few penalties for companies that grievously mistreat turkeys. The production lines run so fast that birds are sometimes still alive as blades cut them, alive as they are dunked in scalding water.
- jimbob45 6y agoWow, I stand corrected.
- FeistySkink 6y agoPerhaps you should look up what factory farming looks like. Merciful is not part of that dictionary.
- gumby 6y agoI hope this makes it to the front page -- because it says something about people in general (and uses multiple examples, even if it happens to discuss one town in the Ozarks the most)
- ecpottinger 6y agoI take it that these people have never watched the turkey drop on TV https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGFtV6-ALoQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGFtV6-ALoQ
