Here's a theory, iPads and Macbooks would some day (not too far away, too) run the same operating system, not just operating systems with the same core. They would just be two form factors. The unification has already started with macOS Big Sur.
- matt-attack 6y agoBut Apple is clearly headed in the actual opposite direction when you looking at iPhones and iPads. So incredibly similar in terms of hardware (basically a few inches of screen is all that distinguishes them). Yet Apple chose to bifurcate what was once a common OS. Recall they both used to run iOS. Now we have iOS and iPadOS. If Apple can’t unify the operating system for iPads and iPhones, how could they do it for macs and iPads?
- wowamit 6y agoI think Apple clearly understood they can't keep iPhone and iPad running the same OS because that holds what iPads can achieve. And that was one of the reasons they had to separate those two platforms. I feel Apple would like to see iPads as lot closer to Macs in capabilities than iPhones.
