Something is very wrong with this type of health care, the root costing in crazy. For baselining, Nevada has ~3.09M people, making it roughly 1/4th the population of Ontario (Canada). Sure, there are other (single payer) concerns at play - but the cost difference is crazy. Let's assume this was a >10cm (the largest cateorgy) gash on the face or neck. The provider bills $417 (1). Assuming this is a nighttime emergency, and that the doctor traveled for this (and only this) event, the billing cost is $136.70 (2). Assuming the doctor needed an assistant, for an hour to complete this (extremely unlikely) there is a further billed cost of $60.04 (3). The cost of an overnight bed in Ontario is ~$320-500 (4). Finally, the cost of the ambulance (the only thing one would pay for) is $45 (5). This ignores costs such as gas reimburrsal, parking, etc; they can occur, but are rather low. If one is Canadian, the total cost is $45, the cost of the ambulance co-pay. Visitors to Canada would pay an SUBSIDIZED maximum of $646.70, outside of the cost of the ambulance. For fun, let's inflate these five times - just in case all of the billing codes are wrong, that's still under half (prior to currency conversion) of the cost in the theoretically more efficient / for profit system.
