Co-incidentally, I just did this myself. Picked up a cheap safety razor and even tried a cutthroat (the one that takes a regular safety razor blade snapped in half). I was also initially nervous of using them. The safety razor is pretty easy to use, the cutthroat requires a bit more care, but on the whole a lot easier to use than I suspected.
