I didn't realize how awful PGP's usability was until I tried to get a server admin with a technical diploma to use it. This guy sets up and maintains servers for a living. He should be able to figure PGP out fairly quickly, shouldn't he? Boy, was I wrong! The case can be made that people care about the the things in this arcile once their most basic needs are met. Whatever it is, it has to work and the user has to be able to figure out how to make it work in fairly short order. The problem we have is that software that meets users' basic needs and software that lives up to the loftier rights in this article are, far too often, mutually exclusive.
