- lioeters 6y agoHere is the original research article this is based on: The Timing of Evolutionary Transitions Suggests Intelligent Life Is Rare https://www.liebertpub.com/doi/10.1089/ast.2019.2149 https://www.liebertpub.com/doi/10.1089/ast.2019.2149 I believe this URL would have been a better, more worthy submission to HN. I'd recommend not going to the Popular Mechanics site. The article is mostly fluff (without substance), and the whole page is about 80% advertisement.
