That post is so wrong in so many ways... You don't need an IDE to program in Java, and if you use an IDE you don't have to use Eclipse. It just happens to be convenient and powerful, but the best way to start learning any programming language is with any text editor and command line compiling. Command completion is not something you want to learn the syntax, it is something you want to make your life easier WHEN YOU KNOW the syntax.
