Somewhat unrelated, but does anyone know how Inkscape is doing? I remember 10+ years ago it was really promising as a vector companion to GIMP (the "Illustrator" to GIMP's "Photoshop"), but using it again recently it doesn't seem to have gotten enough attention in the last decade or so.
With a UI revamp and stability improvements, it could really be a shining star in FOSS creative software.
- austincheney 6y agoI remember a thread on here a few months ago about how the JS Vue framework brings in tremendous cash donations while Inkscape brings in about $60k per year in donations. I remember that because I found it astonishing how something I could reproduce myself brings in such astonishing cash while something that is so far beyond my capabilities brings in so little.
- orev 6y agoAs a user of Inkscape, it seems to be doing just fine. They released version 1.0 within the past year (after a decade of 0.x), and it works just fine. AFAIK, the project leaders are running into some issues with the SVG standards body on what the next direction should be. Inkscape is seeing requests for many new features, like multi-page drawings, that the SVG group does not want to implement, so Inkscape is at a crossroads on trying to maintain standards compliance while having a standards body that doesn’t seem to want to do anything.
