Penguin Random House Staff Confront Publisher About New Jordan Peterson Book
- asguy 6y agoIf you don’t like Jordan Peterson, don’t buy his books. Besides clickbait, what does Vice have to gain by running with anonymous junior employees as sources? Especially ones crying at work meetings. How influential could they/should they be?
- rmk 6y agoThis is a very troubling trend of activism that hurts more than it helps. It looks like this new woke mentality will end up having a chilling effect on all forms of dissent: ironically, these people are replacing the tyranny they apparently seek to eliminate with their own variety! Where does this end? The indoctrination is insidious; at school, right from very early grades, up to university, where professors who dare to question the liberal orthodoxy are shouted down or driven out altogether, to corporations, where people who want to just show up and do work in an apolitical environment are subjected to incessant haranguing and a vitiated atmosphere. Examples of all these cases abound. Has it now become passe to take it for granted that politics and religion are taboo at the workplace? Or that everything is fair game for discussion, analysis, and argument at the University? Or that young children should be allowed to have their innocence?
- AnimalMuppet 6y agoMy perception is that wokeness is something like a sine wave, and that we haven't hit the function maximum yet, but we're past the midpoint and it's already starting to decelerate (and will eventually reverse). And I think the woke can kind of feel that, too, which is why the screaming is so intense. They know they're losing momentum, and they're desperate to keep it. Just my perception. I could be wrong, but I hope I'm not.
- rmk 6y agoI doubt the pendulum will swing back before significant damage is done. We always swing to extremes, and it's reflected in public policy. Once it gets into that phase the damage is extensive and hard to undo.
