German Professor Who Is Hardcore Star Wars Fan Repaints Observatory as R2-D2
- VMG 6y agoI don't need an observatory to see the IP lawyers descending like a meteor right now
- plextoria 6y agoWhy would they? This is free advertisement for Disney.
- danuker 6y ago> free Exactly. The professor didn't pay for the privilege.
- slightwinder 6y agoIt's not like there is anything they actually can do. He doesn't make money with this. And this is also just a rough remake of R2-D2, not a detailed repliaction. So all in all it's a case of fair use at best, at worst not even a case.
- kleiba 6y agoPälzer...
- Tepix 6y agoNeat. However, it isn't news and should have a (2018) suffix in the title.
- sdoering 6y agoWell I love it. I love the fact, that people are Nerds in the best sense of the word. They are passionate for their craft and work and dedicate their energy to it. They can inspire others and are able to shine a light on what they do. This way they will be able to light the spark in others - esp. the younger generation and lead them into the sciences and also show that you can achive something by doing what you love. While still putting in the hard work.
- NiceWayToDoIT 6y agoI love it as well, now it will be double touristic attraction + inspire children to learn more about space & science...
- kohlerm 6y agoThat is fun. I live nearby, should take the opportunity and check it out in real live.
- toyg 6y agoStar Wars (and probably the Marvel/DC superheroes) is effectively the new Iliad. Its heroes, themes, and aesthetics, will likely self-replicate for centuries and be used by historians as a reference for cultural values of these times. It is already much bigger than Mickey Mouse, in practice, and has now enough material to be enjoyed throughout one's entire life (it's actually becoming difficult to be a completionist, with all these TV series). I fully expect, in about 100 years time, to get statues of Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa erected not-ironically.
- contradictioned 6y agoHe is also known for his Star Trek lectures. As far as I know only in German, but if you understand it, really entertaining https://www.startrekvorlesung.de/ https://www.startrekvorlesung.de/
- jtwaleson 6y agoI love his shirt: "Star Wars #1 Fan" with a picture of the Enterprise :D
- _Microft 6y agoThis might be a very clever and cheap form of STEM outreach. It's cool, unusual enough to be newsworthy and might attract visitors to the observatory (they are open to visitors every friday night). It can also inspire people to look for an observatory locally. It did that for me at least.
