This is a wonderful ad for a Russian supply chain company that also serves as a loving homage to South African filmmaker Neill Blomkamp.
This short ad gently guides the innocent viewer to the inevitable, inescapable conclusion that we are indeed on Mars, complete with the requisite zoom out effect we have come expect as the final flourish.
Highlights include a quick shot of Phobos and Deimos hanging in the twilight, a nursery for farmed, baby drones, and a nagging Russian wife who argues with her husband via a telepresence-enabled drone, decorated with polka dots.
The credits reveal a writer and director named "Sergei Vasiliev", which is likely a reference to the Soviet-era film director Sergei Vasilyev.
- markus_zhang 6y agoThanks, never realized it's an ad, but so wonderfully done!
- sammalloy 6y agoGiven that the credit for the writer/director appears to be fake per my above comment, I now think it's possible that this short ad was contracted out to Neill Blomkamp himself, given his history of notable commercial work for corporate clients. Edit: it looks like my hypothesis is wrong. Sergei Vasilyev appears to be a real person, and the short film is not an ad, but was shared by the company you linked to in your OP. Here's the actual link to Vasilyev's film: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HZ4DnVfWYQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HZ4DnVfWYQ
