I am glad this made it to the top of HN. I am normally cynical (I'd say that's common around here) and smirked pretty hard at the whole thing for a moment, then thought about the usual quote "be the change you want in the world" and joined with a smile.
I doubt 2021 will be the best year ever (how the heck would we even measure that?) but 2020 sets the bar pretty low to at least invert the recent trend of "each year gets worse than the past one" :D
- gradys 6y agoI had a similar reaction, and also signed up. Upon reflection, I think there actually is a chance for it to be the best. Global poverty continues to shrink. Depending on your politics, you might be excited about the next US administration. Vaccines look like they'll be pretty widely deployed. Maybe we'll have a few more people out there doing good deeds. Things are looking up!
