Ask HN: How blogging has helped you?
This is very broad question. I would love to know how blogging has helped you throughout your career whether its building an audience or attracting more recruiters
- theandrewbailey 6y agoMy blog has next to zero professional value, aside from experimenting with web technologies that I don't use at work. As for the actual posts, it's only meant to enhance my writing skills. No one has read it and wanted to hire me because of it.
- ShaniceWilliams 6y agosame here! although I am contemplating including a link to my blog on my resume to showcase my writing skills
- kevincox 6y agoOccasionally it is also useful to have something written that I can point to when I am making the same argument again. But I agree that primarily it is for me to practice my writing. I have a couple of readers, and a couple of popular articles but I just enjoy messing with the tech around deploying the blog and practicing my writing skills.
- sharmi 6y agoI post rather sporadically, whenever I have something of use or interesting to add. I was asked to speak at the local Python meetup because of that. I discovered more friends through that.
- lukaszkups 6y agoDuring one recruitment process, I've got passed through initial steps, because the hiring company already knew my answers about some topics (I've learned about it later, when I was speaking with other devs who were working there). Also in the past I've received multiple offers to create book/course about the technology I feel comfortable with, but I've declided (so I'm not sure if that counts)
- lmiller1990 6y agoBlogging helped me a ton. I got a few freelance opportunities from people who read my blog. I also was able to use it to advertise some material I was working on (course, book) to make some money (few thousand $).
- apache909 6y agoI got paid for writing articles at some point coz of writing on my medium blog.
- ukoms 6y agoTL;DR: It didn't. Blogging hasn't helped me throughout me career at all.
