The real lock-in is the IAM on Cloud. Aurora to anything else is fine since you can take a snapshot and move it to another engine easily.

- MaxBarraclough 6y agoI was thinking the worst case would be something like Google Cloud Datastore, a proprietary 'managed-only' database that isn't compatible with any existing product. I think there was an attempt to make a Free and Open Source drop-in replacement, but I don't think it got far.
