I don't understand why exerting better control over hardware + software would mean we are being duped. A more cohesive experience provided by Apple can only be a win for them and their customers.
- dandellion 6y agoAs long as your interests align with Apple's, yes. But if they stop being aligned you basically have no control. So it's a double edged sword, it basically comes down to personal choice.
- socialdemocrat 6y agoAs long as there is an escape hatch which macOS has. The key problem IMHO with iOS is not the AppStore but the lack of an escape hatch. Running something from outside the AppStore should be an option. It could be a switch or toggle you could turn on with a warning.
