Sengi – A FLOSS multi-account Mastodon and Pleroma desktop client
- jszymborski 6y agoHonestly, a lot of what keeps my Twitter account active and my Mastodon account inactive is the quality of the desktop clients and apps. Will certainly give this (and mastodon) a second shot!
- Alekhine 6y agoThis is really good. One of my main issues with Mastodon was that there was no way to have multiple accounts and have a unified timeline. This makes it easily possible to be part of more than one community, which was a big obstacle to my using Mastodon more often.
- Proven 6y agoDoes it support Gab? Another client: https://thedesk.top/en/ https://thedesk.top/en/
- mbirth 6y ago"desktop client" is a bit of a stretch for this 100+ MB "website in a headless browser" Electron app.
- bil7 6y agoregardless of implementation, it is still a desktop client
- himujjal 6y agoIts really a bad issue we have here with us. Electron apps are piling up like crazy. Every arch update was like 1+ gb for me. I shifted to all terminal, all web as of now. I am waiting for https://sciter.com https://sciter.com to go open source in the upcoming months. We can sigh in relief. Also, why aren't more apps created using https://github.com/webview/webview https://github.com/webview/webview instead of electron. Windows support is not that bad you know.
- cweagans 6y agoWait, sciter is going open source?? I thought the kickstarter to make it happen didn't reach the funding goal, so they weren't going to do it?
- himujjal 6y agoI am not very sure a single man can fight against Google/Apple/Mozilla/Microsoft(Github) etc who use and develop Chromium based softwares. He has to take the help of community otherwise the project is dead. I think c-smile has got the thing late TBH. Going open source before Electron (at least on Linux) would have given him a lot of leverage over Electron. But its ultimately his product, his life.
- Conlectus 6y agoWebview looks like an interesting project. I feel lost people's complaints with Electron apps from from memory usage / JavaScript performance though, which it doesn't look like it would improve significantly.
- himujjal 6y agoWebview is okay for most apps to be honest. Performance isn't that snappy, but for many apps like Markdown readers and stuff, its great. Now I do support Electron that push web technologies to the limit. e.g. Signal, Skype, VS Code etc.
- leppr 6y agoNot wrong since they have this in the Github: > It is released as a browser webapp and also packaged as an cross-platform desktop application (Mac, Windows, and Linux). and they provide a docker image for hosting it easily, which is how I plan to use it for myself.
- blackrock 6y agoMastodon sounds like a perverted adult website.
