Student loans have been a scam for quite a while now. Inflated tuition costs, pressure on unsophisticated borrowers, normalization of extreme debt levels for graduates -- and $400B is a pittance for government budgets.
So where did all that money disappear to? Oh, right, to banks and wealthy university endowments. Entities who can well afford a bit of loss, unlike struggling young graduates.
