>>> "This all translates into increased mortality in vitamin D deficient COVID-19 patients. As per the flexible approach in the current COVID-19 pandemic authors recommend mass administration of vitamin D supplements to population at risk for COVID-19."
This sounds promising, although there may still be a chicken and egg like issue with this study. Does severe COVID 19 and inflammation cause a vitamin D deficiency?
Or does a Vitamin D deficiency cause severe COVID?
- hinkley 6y agoCorrelation does not equal causation. But that said, my money is on them both being symptoms of some other imbalance.
- pksebben 6y agogiven the cost of vitamin d supplements, and the lack of any discernable downside to taking them, does it really matter?
- sigmaprimus 6y agoYou are right it doesn't really matter, actually, in Canada Vitamin D fortifications are legislated in a milk and most other dairy products. Which makes for an effective way to supplement the majority of the populations' diet. The only way it really matters is if incorrect assumptions are made yet again regarding this pandemic, furthering the distrust and amplifying the conspiracy theorists messaging. I honestly think the health authorities in most western countries have dropped the ball in nutritional messaging for decades, possibly due to lobbyists or other more pressing issues but the looming health crisis was there even before the pandemic. The proverbial chickens are now comming home to roost, unfortunately.
