The End of the Pandemic Is Now in Sight
- just-juan-post 6y agoI was thinking about making a Ask HN about this topic but now is a better time. Ask HN: What are the conditions for your state or county to return to Feb 2020 levels (no masks, full capacity everything)? I keep hearing "when there's a vaccine" but I don't hear specifics. There's a vaccine now('ish), why not open up now? If not now then under what conditions exactly? I really want to know the SPECIFIC conditions to return things to the way they were and I'm not hearing much. What are the specific conditions to end mandatory masks and capacity restrictions in your area? Are there any?

- jfengel 6y agoI don't think anybody can give you a really concrete answer. Some people are already treating it as if it were February. Others are going to be extremely careful, and may literally never return to February. I myself may be closer to the latter: I have close friends with health conditions for whom COVID could be incredibly dangerous. I may literally wear a mask for the rest of my life, though I'll probably be willing to at least go out in groups once I'm vaccinated. I can't tell you exactly what I'll do because I don't know what the vaccine is really going to be like: how well it will be distributed, how quickly herd immunity will take effect, what side effects are observed, etc. I'm hopeful that we'll start seeing case numbers fall in couple of months, and I'll start being able to make decisions then, but right now I don't even know what it is I don't know.
