Does it mean you can no longer easily tell if a process has gone crazy and takes high CPU usage without a fan and you also can't even feel the slow down.

- brianpan 6y agoTotally broke my workflow: https://xkcd.com/1172/ https://xkcd.com/1172/
- ogre_codes 6y agoI was wondering something similar. VSCode tends to fly off the handle every once in a while and the only way I notice currently is a subtle lagging and the fan spinning up. Though recently I switched back to VIM so perhaps this won't be an issue anymore.
- bartvk 6y agoThat is true in many situations, like a remote server. That's why we have top on the commandline, or iStat Menus. But I'm not sure if iStat Menus actually works on the new machines. https://bjango.com/mac/istatmenus/ https://bjango.com/mac/istatmenus/
- mekster 6y agoThose are passive solutions. You'd be looking at them after you realize something doesn't look right. iStat or similar can do a notification if a process is taking high CPU usage for a while. Servers have their own solutions like monitoring daemons that sends out an alert if CPU usage had been too high for a while.
- divbzero 6y agoJust wait, we’ll soon have an app for that — the equivalent of fake engine sound for EVs.
- ngcc_hk 6y agoHaha!!! Sorry but is this crazy to need the fan to sense the performance!
- panda88888 6y agoI like the idea. An app that roars louder the higher the cpu load.
- growse 6y agoNullsoft (remember them?) had 'beep' which was always a joy to run. https://www.1014.org/code/nullsoft/nbeep/ https://www.1014.org/code/nullsoft/nbeep/
- panda88888 6y agoOf Winamp fame? Of course!
